Regular readers will be only too aware that I rattle on a bit about laptops getting nicked. We had one the other day containing licence data from the Florida Transportation Department. Well it is now official, 81% of US firms have lost at least one laptop containing sensitive data in the last year.
This report, highlighted in The Register, is a survey of 500 IT professionals who ‘fessed up the headline stat. The big issue is knowing what data has gone missing – many organizations haven’t a clue as to what dear user has copied onto their laptop.
Maybe the solution is to review who has a laptop and see if they really need it, coupled with an aggressive campaign to secure laptop data across an organization. More budget anyone?
