New Dell Vostro laptop range driven by Customer Feedback

Dell has introduced two new ranges of laptops destined primarily to Small and Medium Customers and in an interesting twist, with direct input from Dell customers suggestions on its IdeaStorm website.

The US-based company has also revealed that it would expanding its laptop portfolio by 50 percent as it seeks to grab a bigger chunk of the more lucrative, higher margin laptop market.

The laptops, the 13.3-inch 1310 and 15.4-inch 1510 have been released in Europe, Middle East and Africa with a 17-inch 1710 refresh expected in May.

Both laptops are substantially lighter and thinner than their predecessors and both offer slot-loading optical drives.

Like other Vostros, the new additions do not come with any trialware, a major source of problems that Dell seems to have addressed.

The PC manufacturer will also provide laptop owners with 10GB of Dell DataSafe Online Backup, Network Assistant and PC TuneUp and offer security features like integrated fingerprint readers, Trusted Platform Module (TPM), cable lock slot, and a Dell-exclusive, factory-installed McAfee Total Protection for Small Business security software.

Dell has not specified whether the 1510 and the 1710 will replace the 1500 and the 1700 in the long run.
