Pico-Projector could make way into laptops soon

A Hong-Kong based company released the first commercially available portable media player with an integrated projector which could mean the end of the age old problem of failure-prone presentations.

The Sunview PMPP is a minuscule device which crams a 3.5-inch TFT-LCD touch screen with a projector built around the iView IPL630 LCOS module, in a form factor that's twice the size of an iPhone.

According to the company, the PMPP produces a VGA image with a colour gamut of more than 110 percent NTSC and can be sized up to 53 inches; however iView's range extends to SVGA resolutions.

Other features include a rechargeable battery, a speaker, a remote control, a SD Card slot, Windows CE 5.0 OS and a Microsoft Office File viewer.

Prices have yet to be revealed as well as delivery dates; but iView's Pico Projector also means that one of the biggest issues with presentations could become a thing of the past.

Laptops may soon come with an integrated projector module, negating the need for separate, bulky, hot and expensive stand alone projectors.

But that may still be a long way to go since the projector is only capable of illuminating up to 9 lux, that's the equivalent of a 60-watt light bulb 3 meters (10 feet) away.
