93% of UK Biz gives thumbs down to IM and VOIP in Security
A survey by Infosecurity Europe of 291 companies has found that 93% of companies believe that instant messaging (IM) and Voice over IP (VoIP) usage is moving faster than corresponding security. Further to this, according to interviews Infosecurity Europe conducted with a panel of 20 Chief Security Officers (CSOs) of large enterprises, IM is now prevalent in organisations with large volumes of financial transactions being carried out over IM in some organisations.

Finjan introduces update-less security

Network filtering and firewalls
Network filtering happens at the network protocol level and can be performed on routers and firewalls by analyzing headers of IP packets and allowing or denying forwarding based on source or destination address, protocol type, TCP port number, packet length, etc. By blocking packages based on network address information and protocol type, network filters can prevent unauthorized access even before an unauthorized user tries to authenticate or a hacker attempts to launch an attack.

Phishy Conversations = "Vishing"
2007 is apparently the year for attacks on IP telephony systems.
With the number of business IP phones sold expected to grow from 9.9 million in 2006 to 45.8 million in 2010, Security vendor, Symantec speculates that VoIP networks will become a new vector in phishing attacks.

Fuzzing - So What's That Then?
Computer Weekly reports that 'Fuzzing' is a legitimate method of testing software systems for bugs and is accomplished by providing an application with semi-valid input to see what the receiving call centre's reaction will be. However, hackers employ this same methodology to exploit vulnerabilities by sending messages with content that, in most cases, is good enough for the target to assume that it's valid.

The Sunday Times reports that a survey at the start of Get Safe Online Week reveals people fear they are more likely to become victims of online crime than they are to be mugged or burgled.
The research indicates that 21 per cent of people now believe they are at greater risk from e-crime - up from 17 per cent last year.
